King Salmon by Ed Raub, Makah
King salmon, first of their kind to appear in the rivers in the spring, are honored and respected by the peoples of the Northwest. They are an important source of nutrition, and are able to transform into humans, as noted by the human figure just below the dorsal fin. They are not only an excellent tasting fish; they also have supernatural powers.
The light blue represents the salmon's ability to live in freshwater as well as salt water.
